The five films presented in the series Literature in Mexican Cinema illustrate examples of literary adaptations through four decades of cinema in Mexico, including important highlights that bring to the screen the literary work of some of the greatest names in Latin American literature, such as Juan Rulfo, Rómulo Gallegos, Vicente Leñero, Bruno Traven, and Federico Gamboa.

Cine Las Americas announces two screenings of the film Soy Cuba (I Am Cuba) directed by Mikhail Kalatozov, co-presented with the Alamo Cinema Drafthouse. This restored 35mm print is a must-see from the 1960s, a film by a master of cinematographic artistry and storytelling, that both drew from and inspired the international avant-garde.

Cine Las Americas  announces the series “Mexican Revolution Films of 70s,” co-presented with the Harry Ransom Center. The series is part of the year-round celebrations of the Bicentennial of the Mexican Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution.

May 13: Cananea (1976) – Directed by Marcela Fernández Violante

May 20: La casta divina (The Divine Caste, 1976) – Directed by Julián Pastor

May 27: Cuartelazo (Mutiny, 1976) – Directed by Alberto Isaac
