In the war-ravaged Catalan countryside of the early 1940's, eleven-year-old Andreu (Francesc Colomer) stumbles upon a crushed wagon in the underbrush at the foot of a high cliff and witnesses the final moments of the dying man and boy inside. When police suspect Andreu's father of foul play he goes into hiding and Andreu is sent to live with relatives. There, the frightened boy creates a fantasy life but is forced to confront a world of adult deception, festering hatred and the war's monstrous consequences. PA NEGRE is about the moral devastation of populations after a civil war. It is a study of the emotions and feelings that arise in traumatic situations. The film is an attempt to understand the complexities of human sensitivities and expectations. PA NEGRE was Spain’s entry to the 2011 Academy Awards.

En la Cataluña rural de principios de los años cuarenta, asolada por la Guerra Civil, Andreu (Fransesc Colomer) , un niño de once años, encuentra un carromato accidentado en el bosque al pie de un acantilado, y presencia los últimos momentos de vida de sus tripulantes. Cuando la policía sospecha del padre de Andreu, el padre se esconde, y Andreu es enviado a vivir con familiares. Ahí, el asustado muchacho crea un mundo de fantasía, pero es forzado a confrontar un mundo de decepción, odios añejos, y las monstruosas consecuencias de la guerra. PA NEGRE trata de la devastación moral de los pueblos después de una guerra civil. Es un estudio de las emociones y sentimientos que florecen en situaciones traumáticas. Un intento por comprender la complejidad de la sensibilidad y expectativas del ser humano. PA NEGRE fue la postulación de España para los Premios de la Academia en 2011.
