The Call for Volunteers for the 16th Cine Las Americas International Film Festival is open! Now is your chance to get involved in an international event that unites amazing films, talented filmmakers and passionate audiences in Austin, Texas. Volunteer with Cine Las Americas and do your part to support diversity and artistic excellence!

Cine Las Americas offers a range of volunteer opportunities for qualified individuals. From helping at the box office, to assisting with production, operations and much more, volunteers are a major part of the festival.

Get Involved, become a volunteer in 4 easy steps!


1) To register as a volunteer, fill out the Volunteer Registration Form.

2) Browse our list of Volunteer Opportunities to find out how your talents could become a valuable asset to one of our volunteer crews.

 Some positions require approval and may request a resume or portfolio link.



3) Sign-up for volunteer shifts online using the Cine Las Americas Shiftboard site.

4) Attend the mandatory Volunteer Training Meeting on Thursday April 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC, 600 River Street, Austin TX 78701).

Volunteer Benefits

- Twelve (12) total hours of work = 1 all access film pass
- Twenty (20) total hours of work = 1 all access film pass + *1 additional all access pass to share with a friend or family member

NO EXCEPTIONS will be made for volunteers working less than the number of hours needed to earn a film pass. If you are a few hours short of earning a pass, we have several very short shifts (less than 3 hours) that are available.

Volunteer Training Meeting

When: Thursday, April 11 from 5:30 - 7:30pm


Where: Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC, 600 River Street, Austin TX 78701).


A volunteer training meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 11 at the Mexican American Cultural Center. This meeting will include an introduction to the festival, your volunteer crew leaders, and training for the various volunteer positions. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and get to know the people you will be working with during the festival.

Build Your Volunteer Schedule Online

After you complete the Volunteer Registration Form you will receive an email with information about accessing our online scheduling tool, Shiftboard. Once you login to our Cine Las Americas Shiftboard site, you can sign-up for various volunteer teams and add volunteer shifts to your schedule. Please note that all volunteer shifts are subject to change and more shifts will be added as we get closer to the festival (ie more Photographer, Driver and Videographer shifts will be added later).

Venue Volunteers

Venue Volunteers are the largest group of volunteers at the festival. This group will include an average of 30 individuals who will be the face of the festival to the audience. 
Box office volunteers have the opportunity to experience the festival day by day, getting to know other motivated individuals with keen interests, and become an essential part of the festival staff.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

     Selling tickets and merchandise

     Distributing & collecting audience surveys/audience awards ballots

     Answering general questions from the public

Production Assistant


Help make the festival happen! Individual should have excellent communication and organizational skills, thrive in a rigorous, high-energy, deadline intensive work environment and possess adaptability, follow direction well and problem-solving skills. Event production and set-up, driving, customer service and other duties to be assigned. Spanish/English bi-lingual a plus. Reliable transportation required.


Hospitality


Hospitality works closely with Registration to help answer questions and coordinate services for both international guests and general audiences. Strong communication skills and a helpful attitude are essential for this position. This person should be knowledgeable of festival operations, events and staff, and be able to answer questions about festival activities. Hospitality will also work with Drivers to inform guests of transportation schedules.


Technical Assistant / Projectionist


Technical assistants are in charge of video projection at the festival venues. Knowledge of different professional video formats, experience in video projection, ability to perform in a team oriented environment and follow direction, able to perform calmly and troubleshoot technical issues under pressure.




Venue Manager


Venue Managers are organized team leaders who can keep to a tight schedule, work well with a team of volunteers, and provide a superior experience for festival attendees. Experience with customer service, managing event venues, box office and staff preferred.

Responsibilities include managing all box office operations including ticket sales, will call lists, merchandise sales, survey administration, audience counts, box office reports, and directing a staff of volunteers in order to provide a seamless experience to film festival audiences. Venue Managers are responsible for keeping the screening schedule on-time, working closely with the Production Manager.

Drivers


This is an important position that will assist festival organizers in providing transportation services to international guests. Must be mature, friendly, reliable, organized, and schedule oriented. Able to take direction to the letter, maintain a schedule and perform well under pressure. Must know Austin very well, especially downtown. Must own reliable transportation with valid insurance. Valid Texas Driver's license with a clean driving record. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.



Photographers

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

     Photographing key events during the festival.

     Able to take direction and planning all shoots from general concept to finished product.

     Collect names of artists, delegates, and guests that are photographed.

     Processing and posting photos to festival Flickr account each night.

     Organizing deliverables with original files for the film festival at the end of the event.

REQUIREMENTS:

     Access to professional grade photographic equipment.

     Availability to fulfill a tight production schedule, including nightly processing, upload and delivery.

Videographer

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

     Video taping key events during the festival.

     Able to take direction and planning all shoots from general concept to finished product.

     Collect names of artists, delegates, and guests that are recorded.

     Editing, compressing and posting video to festival you-tube account each night.

     Organizing deliverables with original footage for the film festival at the end of the event.

REQUIREMENTS:

     At least one year of experience in video production (shooting, interviewing and editing) (sample of work will be considered an asset).

     Have access to own professional grade video camera and audio recording equipment.

     Availability to edit, compress and upload video clips during evenings.

     Availability to fulfill a coverage schedule during the event.
