2011-2012 Internship Position: Public Relations Assistant
Job Description:
The Public Relations Intern works directly with the Executive Director to ensure the timely and accurate information exchange with festival sponsors, donors, members of the community, and the media. The intern will be involved in furthering the organization’s mission and its programs by building media and community partnerships, creating succesful fund raising campaigns, establishing and maintaining corporate and individual donor relations, and producing public events.
Responsibilities Include:
- Updating and maintaining several databases, including Sponsors, Donors, and Friends.
- Assisting the Executive Director in cultivating and maintaining a membership base.
- Maintaining and updating the organization’s profile on a variety of web sties, social media sites, and printed media.
- Assisting the Executive Director in managing Advertising and Public Relations campaigns.
- Assisting the Executive Director in preparing monthly and annual reports.
- Generating content for the organization’s web site, social media sites, and e-newsletter.
- Writing and effectively disseminating press releases.
- Serving as a liaison between the organization and a public relations agency.
- Cultivating relations with members of the media, grass-roots organizations, and other groups of interest at a local, national and international level.
- Promoting films, visiting filmmakers, and events.
- Assisting in the organization and production of public events.
- Answering telephones and general inquiry emails as needed.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university, preferably in a related degreed program, i.e.: marketing, public relations, journalism, radio-television-film business or communications
- Passionate about engaging the community in Arts and Culture programs that promote cultural diversity and education though Film and Media Arts.
- Must be intuitive and creative, with a demonstrated ability to integrate different media to effectively craft and transmit the right message to the right people.
- Excellent writing, grammar and copy editing skills.
- Eager to establish and share community, media, and industry connections.
- An interest in learning about the domestic and foreign film market.
- Must be very organized and able to keep calm and focused when working under pressure.
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
- Reliable, self-motivated and a good team member.
- Proficient in Mac based Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and FileMaker Pro.
- Knowledge of Spanish language is a big plus.
- Knowledge of digital photography, video, and/or web publishing is a big plus.
- Knowledge of basic film festival protocol a plus.
Availability:
- Applicants must be available for 10-15 hours per week in the office, and be available to work special events after hours and on weekends as required.
- Must be available full time from April 18 to 30, including evenings and weekend days.
Term of Internship:
- October 15 through May 15
- This is a seasonal, part time, non-paid internship position. University or College Internship Credit may be earned with appropriate oversight and in accordance with the institution’s degree plans.
