Mosquita y Mari tells the story of two 15-year-old girls growing up in Los Angeles. When Yolanda meets her new neighbor, all they see in each other are differences. As an only child to her older, immigrant parents, Yolanda’s sole concern is going to college. For her part, street-smart Mari has to hustle to help her undocumented family stay above water. Despite Yolanda and Mari's contrasting approach to survival, they are soon brought together when Mari is almost expelled after saving Yolanda from an incident at school. Determined to call it even, Yolanda convinces Mari to let her tutor her to prove to the school’s principal that she’s more than a delinquent. They then forge a friendship that soon proves more complex and sensual than anticipated. Mosquita y Mari premiered earlier this year at Sundance Film Festival.
