Tongues of Stone

Argentina/USA, Documentary, 2009
45 min, MiniDV/BetaSP, Color
Spanish with English subtitles
The Rolling Stones have conceded that they are more popular in Argentina than any other country in the world, which is strange since they didn't play a single concert in Buenos Aires until 1995 - two decades into their career. But their absence didn't stop two generations of "rollingas" from sporting the Stones' trademark tongue and developing their own Stones-themed bands, bars, soccer clubs, restaurants, and fashion crazes. Through engaging and often hilarious interviews, performances, and archival footage, Tongues of Stone investigates the legendary status of the Rolling Stones in Argentina, and reveals the strange power of rock 'n' roll in the least likely of places.
