A salsa dance group from Guanabacoa, located on the outskirts of Havana, is attempting to win the Cuban national dance competition. It is a story and event that engrosses the country. Along the group's journey to the competition, viewers can hear Cuban music, delve into the dancers' lives, learn a bit about the history of dance, and of course, see vibrant dancing.

Dancers and directors Eric Joseph Johnson and Sarita Streng were co-teachers and performers before filming La Salsa Cubana. Johnson currently works as a freelance engineer, and Streng runs the Community Dance Program in Albuquerque, NM.
